The Assistant Manager Taxation is responsible for the execution and coordination of the group’s tax compliance and reporting functions. The role focuses on ensuring accurate and timely filings, maintaining rigorous tax documentation, and providing technical support during audits and litigations to minimize the group’s tax risk.

Key Responsibilities

 

1. Compliance & Operational Execution

  • Return Preparation: Lead the end-to-end preparation of monthly and annual Income Tax and Sales Tax returns. Ensure all filings on IRIS/FBR and provincial portals (SRB, PRA, etc.) are accurate and submitted before deadlines.
  • Withholding Tax (WHT) Management: Supervise the calculation and deposit of withholding taxes. Ensure monthly WHT statements are reconciled with the general ledger.
  • Provincial Coordination: Monitor compliance across all provincial jurisdictions, ensuring the correct application of varying tax rates for services.

2. Documentation & Financial Reporting

  • Tax Reconciliations: Perform monthly and quarterly reconciliations between financial statements and tax returns. Identify and resolve discrepancies immediately.
  • Tax Provisions: Assist the Finance department in calculating tax provisions and deferred tax for monthly and year-end financial reporting.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain a comprehensive and "audit-ready" digital and physical archive of all tax-related correspondence, challans, and certificates.

3. Audit & Litigation Support

  • Notice Management: Draft initial responses to show-cause notices (SCNs) and information requests from the FBR or provincial authorities.
  • Audit Coordination: Serve as the "frontline" coordinator during tax audits, gathering necessary ledgers and supporting documents requested by auditors.
  • Appellate Assistance: Prepare case files, paper books, and research summaries for the Deputy Manager or external counsel for hearings before the CIR(A) or Tribunals.

4. Technical Monitoring & Research

  • Legislative Tracking: Monitor daily SROs, circulars, and notifications. Prepare brief summaries of how these changes impact daily operations (e.g., changes in WHT rates).
  • Exemption Processing: Execute the filing of applications for tax exemptions, lower-rate certificates, and the processing of tax refund claims.

 

 

Candidate Requirements:

  • Qualification: CA (Qualified, ACCA, or ACMA. (Masters in Finance/LLB is a plus).
  • Experience: 5–8 years of core taxation experience (Big 4 background is highly preferred).
  • Knowledge: Expertise in FBR E-filing portals, IRIS, and a strong grip on IAS-12 (Income Taxes).
  • Skills: Strong legal drafting (for tax appeals) and advanced Excel for tax modeling.
